LCA and EPD
As Sweden's leading manufacturer of interior textiles, we at Svensson are proud to offer Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for a wide range of upholstery fabrics and hanging fabrics.

What is an EPD?
The basis for an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). The results from this are summarised in the EPD.
The EPD document describes the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. It is based on details about the product's environmental performance, such as its energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and other relevant environmental factors.
EPD is used to communicate transparent and standardised environmental information to consumers, companies, and other stakeholders to facilitate informed and sustainable decisions.
EPD for Svensson
Since its inception in 1887, Svensson has focused on quality and sustainable methods. With our own production in Kinna, Sweden, we have full control over and can influence every step of the production, from yarn to finished textile. For us, transparency and reliability in all stages are a given, and all data regarding raw materials used in the EPDs have therefore been obtained directly from our suppliers.
Third-party review
Svenssons EPDs are third-party reviewed, which means they have been quality assured.
By adhering to Product Category Rules (PCRs) for textiles, our EPDs facilitate meaningful comparisons with other products on the market that have used the same PCR.
Reduce environmental impact
The lessons from the LCA have helped us understand our current environmental impact and are used as a foundation when we develop new products, with the aim of reducing our environmental impact. By making well-informed decisions based on verifiable facts, you as a customer can choose products with a lower environmental footprint. Together, we shape a more sustainable future.

EPD - Environmental product declaration
An EPD is a document that describes the environmental impact of a product within several different environmental impact categories. An EPD is third-party reviewed and meets the requirements for ISO 14025 (Type III environmental declaration). This means that the information can be communicated externally. EPDs are often important in requirements from ADDA as well as in environmental certifications. All our EPDs are also available on EPD Library | EPD International.

LCA - Life Cycle Analysis
The foundation of all EPDs is a comprehensive lifecycle analysis (LCA), conducted in accordance with ISO standards ISO14040 and ISO14044. This has been reviewed by a third party.
LCA is a method for calculating environmental impact throughout a product's entire lifecycle. It is usually divided into the phases raw materials – transport – manufacturing process – usage phase – waste management or recycling. A lot of data is collected from suppliers and own production to be able to model the entire process. An LCA report is often a document of approximately 100 pages. The results of an LCA can be implemented both in the product development process and in strategic work.

PCR - Product category rules
A PCR contains rules, requirements, and guidelines for developing an EPD for a specific product category. Svensson has used PCR for fabrics 2022:04 version 1.0.1.
